The Toyota Avalon is a sleek, full-size sedan. After a major refresh for the 2019 model year that included a change to the TNGA platform, the 2020 model carries over with just a few minor improvements. The one big addition is the new TRD model! The Avalon stands out in the sedan segment of the market with its look, power, and performance. Here are some of the key features of the 2020 Toyota Avalon.
Trim Levels
The Avalon comes in four trim levels and the new TRD model. The XLE starts the lineup with LED lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, heated side door mirrors, and integrated turn signals. The XSE builds on the XLE by adding power to the side mirrors and adding a power moonroof, along with 19-inch alloy wheels. The TRD adds to the XSE with 19-inch matte black wheels, side skirts, a rear diffuser with red accents, and a black front splitter. It also has a black rear spoiler, TRD-tuned coil springs, red brake calipers, and it gets larger brakes.
The Avalon Touring comes with an adaptive suspension, while the luxurious Limited has 18-inch chrome alloy wheels.
Engine
All Avalon models get their power from a 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine that makes 301 horsepower. You get front-wheel-drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission no matter which trim you have. Drivers looking for a more fuel-efficient version of the Avalon should take a look at the hybrid, which combines a gas engine with electric power.
Performance
You can't beat the smooth and composed ride of the Avalon. The V-6 has plenty of power for accelerating and passing on the highway, and if you get the optional adaptive suspension, it makes the ride even better, handling tight corners with ease. The new TRD has a lower ride height, and its stiffer suspension makes it even more fun to drive!
Interior
This four-door sedan has room for five, and up front, both seats have an eight-way power adjustment feature. Tall passengers will feel comfortable both in the front and back, and they'll get 40 inches of legroom if they sit in the back seat. The cabin has an upscale feel with high-quality materials throughout. All trims have heated front seats and simulated leather upholstery, while the Limited adds heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel.
Technology in the Avalon starts with a 9-inch touch screen display, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa, Toyota's Entune 3.0 infotainment system, and an eight-speaker stereo. The XSE adds the option for a 14-speaker stereo system and navigation.
Safety Features
All the Avalon trims come standard with a rearview camera, traction and stability control, and a blind-spot monitoring system. Every model also has the Safety Sense suite of advanced safety features. This group includes lane-departure alert, steering assist, a pre-collision system with forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and automatic braking; it includes automatic high beams and an adaptive cruise control system.
The available Advanced Safety Package for the Limited and Touring adds a 360-degree surround-view camera and a rear-cross traffic warning with mitigation.
