While there hasn’t been any official announcement to date, we do know a few crucial details about the 2021 Toyota Tundra that should excite everyone who loves getting around town in a pickup truck.

New Hybrid Powertrain

Out of all the things we know about the 2021 Tundra, the most intriguing bit of information is that Toyota is planning to add a hybrid powertrain to this pickup. While the hybrid system is only rumored at this point, there has been a lot of speculation about what adding such a system to the Tundra would entail.

For starters, it’s expected that the electric motor of this system would be paired with a turbocharged V-6 engine, which means the Tundra would provide an ideal combination of power and efficiency. Speaking of power, there has been some speculation as to the ratings we might see with this system. While we’ll obviously need to wait for confirmation from Toyota, many believe that this powertrain will put out up to 500 pound-feet of torque and 450 horsepower, making this model perfect for both work and play.

New Architecture

Another exciting rumor about the upcoming 2021 Toyota Tundra is that it will be based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) and that it would share this platform with Toyota’s other world-class truck, the Tacoma. Basing the Tundra on the TNGA allows for several improvements that should please motorists everywhere.

For instance, thanks to the TNGA, production times should be vastly improved, meaning this truck will be widely available. The new platform also allows for lightweight powertrain designs, which should boost performance and efficiency. Other benefits of the TNGA include upgraded handling and better overall ride quality.

An Upgraded Suspension

As you would expect for a vehicle that hasn’t been officially announced, Toyota has been very tight-lipped about the latest version of the Tundra. Fortunately, thanks to some recent spy photos, there are a few other things we may know about this vehicle.

The photos taken of the new Tundra show a vehicle covered in heavy wrapping, particularly in the rear. This has led many people to believe that the 2021 Tundra may very well be revealed with a brand-new rear suspension. A new rear suspension would be a huge development because it would mean better stability and a smoother ride, which is beneficial whether you need a truck for work or play.

The release of the 2021 Toyota Tundra probably won’t happen until late 2020, but until then, you can tide yourself over thanks to these exciting rumors about this upcoming truck. Make sure to keep an eye out online for official statements about the Tundra, and when this full-size pickup hits the market, plan a trip to Fox Toyota of El Paso so you can go for a test drive!
