Your Toyota ADAS, known as Toyota Safety Sense, is a suite of advanced safety systems designed to protect on the road. Most of these systems are continually active, and some can be customized for your driving preferences. We want to tell you more about how these systems work to keep you safe and on track.
Toyota ADAS: Navigating Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD)
This system uses a combination of radar and a camera to detect vehicles, pedestrians, bicyclists, or animals in front of your vehicle. The distance between your front bumper and the object is swiftly calculated if something is identified.
If it detects the distance is rapidly closing between you and the object in front, the system provides visual and audio warnings of an impending collision. Should you not react in time, the system will apply automatic emergency braking to prevent or reduce damage from a collision.
Lane Departure Alert With Steering Assist (LDA w/SA)
When driving faster than 30 mph, this system activates and uses a camera to identify white or yellow road lines. Once the lines are identified, the system will monitor your vehicle and attempt to keep it in the center of its lane unless you actively change lanes. If it detects your wheels inadvertently straying into a neighboring lane, you’ll receive audio and visual warnings.
The system will gently turn the wheel to direct you back into your original lane if you don’t react fast enough.
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)
This advanced cruise control system can be pre-set to maintain a specific following distance between you and any vehicle ahead. It’s intended for highway driving and can reduce strain caused by driving long distances. The system activates when you exceed 20 mph, and it will apply automatic braking to reduce your speed to maintain your pre-set following distance.
Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)
This system activates whenever DRCC above is operating and works similarly to LDA w/SA above. It can recognize lane lines and aims to keep your vehicle within the lines at all times. It provides audio and visual warnings if it detects that your vehicle is moving into another lane without you actively steering. If these don’t suffice, emergency braking will be applied if necessary.
Road Sign Assist (RSA)
It can be easy to miss a road sign when driving, but that will never happen again when RSA is active. This feature uses a camera to identify road signs, like speed limits or no-entry signs, and displays an icon of the sign on your screen so you can take action if necessary.
